Melania Trump Escapes Death As Pilot Forces Smoking Plane To Land
LAGOS OCTOBER 17TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Melania Trump’s Philadelphia-bound plane was forced to return to Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday morning after a “mechanical issue” caused smoke to waft though the cabin, according to reports.
About 10 minutes after takeoff, reporters noticed a thin haze of smoke and detected a burning smell, according to CNN.
They were provided with wet towels to hold over their faces in case the acrid smell became too strong.
“Smell and smoke have since dissipated,” NBC’s Peter Alexander tweeted.
The plane landed safely about 9 a.m.
The White House did not immediately provide an official explanation about the incident and the press pool has been told that the trip is being re-evaluated.
Stephanie Grisham, the first lady’s communications director, told CNN the incident was a “minor mechanical issue. Everything is fine and everyone is safe.”
FLOTUS was en route to Philadelphia to meet with families of children who were affected by exposure to opioids while in the womb.
She was joined on her visit to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital by Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar.
The first lady also planned to tour a neonatal intensive care nursery and speak at a US Health Department conference on a new system that tracks infants suffering from opiate withdrawal.
Her visit is one of the stops she planned on making to promote her “Be Best” campaign, which focuses on major issues affecting children, including the importance of healthy pregnancies.
