Bandits Kidnap Over 100 Residents In Zamfara Communities Over Failure To Pay N110m Tax
LAGOS NOVEMBER 26TH (NEWSRANGERS)-No fewer than 100 persons have been abducted by terrorists, locally dubbed as bandits, in a mass attack on residents of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
It was learnt that the gunmen raided four villages which were; Mutumji, Sabongari Mahuta, Kwanar Dutsi and Unguwar Kawo, for failing to pay levies imposed on the communities.
The bandits were said to have been invaded the communities around 8pm on Friday after prayers and went away with mostly women and children, Channels TV reports.
Some sources from Mutumji told newsmen that the bandits invaded the community around 8pm after prayers and started shooting sporadically, forcing residents to scamper to safety.
Residents said “a bandits’ kingpin operating in the area, Damina, had imposed N110million harvesting levy on the communities, giving them two weeks ultimatum to comply and pay.
“A N50million levy was imposed on Mutumji, N30million on Kwanar Dutsi, N20million on Sabongari Mahuta and N10million on Unguwar Kawo.”
While another source from the area said the communities had started gathering the money when the terrorists invaded the communities on Friday evening.
