LAGOS AUGUST 20TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Renaissance Africa Energy Company has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the sustainable development and economic diversification of Bonny Kingdom, describing the island as uniquely positioned to become a leading tourism and investment destination in Nigeria and Africa.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Renaissance, Tony Attah, spoke on Wednesday at the Bonny Island Tourism and Investment Summit tagged ‘Discover Bonny’, an initiative to showcase the island’s rich history, culture, heritage and hospitality to the world while creating new pathways for prosperity beyond oil and gas.

Bonny Island is host to several oil and gas facilities including Renaissance-operated joint venture’s Bonny Oil and gas Terminal, and the Nigeria LNG Limited.

According to Attah, Bonny’s future should not be defined solely by its long-standing contribution to Nigeria’s energy sector. “The story of Bonny did not begin with energy, and it should not be limited to energy. Discover Bonny is not the creation of a new identity but a clarion call and invitation to the rest of the world to come discover the island’s rich culture, heritage, history, and hospitality.”

Attah described the event as the renaissance of an old strength, heralding a new beginning and a new era for Bonny as a tourism destination and a new economy beyond oil and gas.

He noted that Renaissance’s support for the initiative reflects the company’s belief that sustainable development is built on partnership and shared prosperity. “Our role as a Tier 1 partner is not ceremonial. It is a statement of confidence. Confidence in Bonny’s potential, confidence in the leadership of His Majesty and confidence in the people of Bonny. We believe sustainable tourism can become a strong complement to Bonny’s long-standing energy heritage, creating confidence, opportunity and dignity for people and places connected to it.”

The summit brought together government officials, traditional institutions, development partners, investors, and private sector leaders to explore opportunities in tourism, heritage preservation, investment promotion, and destination development.

In his remarks, His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom, spoke on the Kingdom’s vision for the future and the immense opportunities that exist across tourism, culture, commerce and investment, stressing that Bonny possesses the historical significance, natural attractions and human capital required to emerge as a globally recognised destination.

Also speaking at the summit, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria LNG, Adeleye Falade, called for stronger collaboration among Bonny’s corporate stakeholders. “We see a future where Bonny is not just an industrial hub but welcoming to tourists from all over the world which depends largely on collaboration.”

The summit featured discussions on destination development, sustainable tourism, investment opportunities, partnership frameworks and the rollout of the Discover Bonny Initiative, an ambitious platform designed to showcase the Kingdom’s cultural heritage, ecological assets, business opportunities, and tourism offerings to domestic and international audiences. Bonny recently received endorsement from the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy as a tourism destination, with recognition given to attractions including the Amanyanabo’s Palace, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the historic British Consulate, Finima Nature Park, and the island’s unique mangrove ecosystem.
