Saudi Job: DSS Denies Reports Of Dispersing Doctors Attending Interview

LAGOS AUGUST 28TH (NEWSRANGERS: The Department of State Services (DSS), has denied dispersing doctors attending a Saudi Arabia-organised job interview at the Sheraton Hotel in Abuja on Thursday.

The spokesman for the DSS, Dr Peter Afunanya, made the denial in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, August 27.

Afunanya said the denial became necessary following incorrect information published circulated in some sections of the media; that operatives of the DSS dispersed doctors attending the interview.

“Though this is illogical and does not add up, the sections of the media that reported it did not care to verify the news before going to print.

“No further evidence was also adduced to prove that the DSS carried out such operation at the hotel. It is obvious that the news is only designed to embarrass the organisation,’’ he stated.

Afunanya urged the media to always crosscheck facts; and guard against the use of their platforms to mislead the public or to undermine national security.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has resolved to take a mediatory role; to resolve the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

The forum disclosed this in a communiqué issued by its Chairman as well as Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi after it 33rd teleconference held on Wednesday.

The communique issued on Thursday, August 26, by NGF said that the resolution followed an update by Dr Ahmad Abdulwahab, the NGF Senior Health Advisor, regarding the ongoing strike.

It noted that the governors resolved to take a mediatory role; to facilitate dialogue between NARD as well as the affected States.

It stated that the forum deliberated on several issues of national importance, including the strike.

According to the NGF communique, the forum resolved to work with the Steering Committee; set up by President Muhammadu Buhari; to oversee the process of the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Bill recently signed into law.

It noted that the governors would also work with the presidential committee; headed by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, on the areas of concern to the forum.
