UK Visa Racket: Lagos Court Jails Woman For Forging NAFDAC Employment Records

LAGOS APRIL 17TH (NEWSRANGERS)-An Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos State has sentenced Remilekun Temitope Balogun-Okedeyi to one-year imprisonment for fogery after she was found guilty of submitting forged employment records and bank statement in a bid to secure a United Kingdom visa.

This was disclosed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in a post on its verified Facebook page on Friday morning.

According to the ICPC, the case showed that Balogun-Okedeyi fabricated multiple official documents, including purported employment letters from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), an employee identity card, and a promotion letter. She also submitted a fake bank statement allegedly issued by Chanelle Microfinance Bank even when she was not a staff member of NAFDAC.

“Remilekun Temitope Balogun-Okedeyi wanted a UK visa. Instead of going through legitimate means, she forged NAFDAC employment letters, a staff ID card, a promotion letter, and even submitted a fake bank statement from Chanelle Microfinance Bank. She was never a NAFDAC employee,” the post read.

According to the Commission’s statement, the forged documents were part of an attempt to support her visa application to the UK Consulate in Lagos. She was, however, busted by the British Deputy High Commission,
which flagged inconsistencies in the application as part of a wider investigation into visa-related racketeering involving at least 16 applications.

She was arraigned, and the court, presided over by Hon. Justice Mojisola Dada found her guilty and handed down a sentence that includes one-year imprisonment, a ₦500,000 fine payable to the Federal Government within seven days, community service, and a bond of good behaviour to be entered into the Lagos State Judiciary database.
