Police Investigate Death Of 71-Year-Old Church Leader In Ondo Hotel

LAGOS JUNE 22ND (NEWSRANGERS)-The Ondo State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of a 71-year-old church leader, Omotayo Ezekiel Fajana, whose body was discovered under suspicious circumstances in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area.

The development was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, while speaking on Sunday with Western Post.

According to the police, the incident was reported at the Akungba Division on Saturday, June 20, 2026, by Olaseni Sunday Olaoluwa, who said the deceased, his uncle, had travelled to the town for a church programme.

The programme was said to be linked to his planned installation as the Head Baba Aladura of a faction of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church at Ogo Orimolade C&S Church, Okerigbo.

Preliminary findings indicated that the cleric was allegedly found dead inside a hotel in Akungba-Akoko under circumstances considered suspicious by investigators.

The police further alleged that some individuals, including church officials and hotel staff, moved the body to a mortuary in Ikare-Akoko without first obtaining a medical certificate of death.

It was also alleged that money changed hands before the body was deposited at the mortuary, even as the church programme reportedly continued despite the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, ordered a discreet investigation into the matter, assuring that those found culpable will be prosecuted while urging the public to remain calm as inquiries continue.
