Fleeing Boyfriend Of Citibank Vice President  Beaten To Death In London  Arrested In Kenya

LAGOS JUNE 22ND (NEWSRANGERS)-The boyfriend of a Citibank Vice President who was beaten to death in her southeast London flat has been arrested after more than a year on the run.

Brian Kiprop Kiplagat was arrested on June 10 after being intercepted by immigration officers at the border of Namanga as he attempted to cross into Tanzania.

Mr Kiplagat has been the subject of a 16-month international manhunt, after his girlfriend, Marianne Kilonzi, a 43-year-old senior official at Citi, was found dead at her home at Royal Arsenal Riverside development in January last year.

Officers said that Ms Kilonzi was thought to have died as a result of blunt force trauma and head injury.

Mr Kiplagat now faces extradition to the UK.

Neighbours have told how they heard “blood-curdling screams” in the run-up to Ms Kilonzi’s death, with one telling Metro: “The poor woman was inside the flat with the door bolted. The police got in somehow but it was too late.”

Mr Kiplagat appeared at the Milimani Law Courts earlier this month.

According to local media reports, the court heard Mr Kiplagat sent a message to one of Kilzoni’s relatives describing her death as a “misfortune”.

Mr Kiplagat’s phone is expected to be forensically examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

Joyce Olajo, prosecuting counsel, told the court that Mr Kiplagat had no fixed address in Kenya and had been moving between various locations

Authorities also said he had various travel documents, some of which are suspected to have been obtained fraudulently.

According to local media reports, under the extradition process, the UK’s formal request will be transmitted through Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs before being forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General and subsequently presented before the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in court.

Local media further reported that the court ordered Kiplagat to remain in custody until June 15, 2026, when the matter is scheduled for mention.
