LAGOS MAY 13TH *NEWSRANGERS)-Obi made this known in a statement shared on his personal X handle on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, where he highlighted discussions with Lord Jonathan Marland, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC).
According to the former Anambra State governor, the meeting focused on prospective trade opportunities, economic advancement, and the development of small businesses across Nigeria.
Obi said the discussions emphasized the importance of strengthening micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which he described as central to sustainable economic growth and employment generation.
He noted that countries experiencing rapid economic growth such as China, Indonesia, and Vietnam have achieved significant progress through deliberate support for small businesses and productive sectors of the economy.
According to him, Nigeria can achieve similar economic transformation by prioritising policies and investments that encourage entrepreneurship, production, and industrial growth.
“As I have consistently asserted, our micro, small, and medium enterprises serve as the driving force behind economic growth, and it is imperative that we provide them with vigorous support to enhance development and create significant employment opportunities, particularly within the agriculture and manufacturing sectors,” Obi stated.
The former presidential candidate further stressed that empowering MSMEs would help address unemployment, stimulate local production, and improve economic stability across the country.
Obi has repeatedly advocated for investment-driven economic reforms and production-focused policies since the 2023 general election. His public engagements have frequently centred on economic recovery, youth employment, and support for local industries.
His latest meeting in London comes amid ongoing debates over Nigeria’s economic direction, rising inflation, unemployment concerns, and the need to attract foreign investment into critical sectors.
The former governor concluded his message with his familiar campaign phrase, “A New and revitalised Nigeria is POssible.”
The statement has since generated reactions among supporters and political observers, with many describing the engagement as part of Obi’s continued involvement in discussions surrounding Nigeria’s economic future and international business relations.
