Nigerians React As Court Jails Prophetess Over N128m Fraud

LAGOS DECEMBER 30TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Linda Mabi-Praise, a self-proclaimed prophetess, was found guilty on Friday December 17th and sentenced to five years in prison for alleged N128 million fraud.

The prophetess was convicted  by Justice SO Solebo of the Ikeja Special Court after her indictment by the state command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of Lagos.

Mabi-Praise, according to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism, is a senior pastor of the Temple of Praise Women Fellowship Global, Surulere, Lagos.

A statement on the EFCC website indicates that the pastor, who has been charged on three counts  fraudulently claimed the said sum from Accelsor Investment Partners Limited on the pretext that their company, Mutano Energy Ltd. is an accredited oil and gas trader and that they are an oil and gas trader.

She was also accused of Having made fake checks to settle the funds.

Mabi-Praise pleaded not guilty

In the meantime, Mabi-Praise admitted the charges to “not guilty” when she was charged in March 2019, which started the trial.

EFCC attorney Franklin Ofoma called two witnesses in the course of the trial and produced several supporting documents to prove the case against the accused.

In delivering his verdict on Friday, Judge Solebo found her guilty of Counts one and three, which bordered on obtaining and writing dishonored checks on false pretenses.

The trial judge took the view that the public prosecutor had proven the allegations that they had obtained “without reasonable doubt” through false pretenses and the issuing of blind checks.

Curbing justice with mercy, pleaded Mabi-Praise’s lawyer

Defense attorney Mumuni Qudus pleaded with the court to soften justice with mercy and to give the mother of two “a second chance”.

after listening according to Mabi -Praise’s attorney sentenced Judge Solebo to three years on count one and two years on count three to run at the same time.
