Man Allegedly Committed Suicide By Drowning Himself
LAGOS MAY 9TH (NEWSRANGERS)-A young man identified as Kehinde Ijebu has allegedly committed suicide by drowning himself in Oyile River in Ibokun community of Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.
Sources informed our correspondent that Kehinde had gone missing on Tuesday but was later found to have drowned himself in the river.
One of the sources hinted that weeks before the incident, the deceased’s behaviour implied that he had been feeling depressed and rejected until the day he decided to end his life.
According to the source, “his whereabouts were not known since the morning of the following day, but his neighbours concluded he had disappeared as he used to do, until his dead body was noticed floating on the river by passersby who notified people in the community.”
Kehinde, who had been suspected to have been suffering from dementia, was later buried alongside his belongings by the riverside on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, around 11:00 am, after some rites were observed.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident.
He stated, “The incident happened. There were no marks of violence on his body. The family approached us that they wanted to bury him, but we suggested an autopsy, which they objected to. They said they wanted to bury him. I can’t say how or where he was buried. Investigation is still ongoing into the matter.”
