LAGOS JULY 28TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The academic tussle between the Kogi State Government, the management of Kogi State University Anyigba and the striking lecturers has deepened.
This is following an advertorial that the Management has commenced the recruitment of new lecturers to replace the striking ones who have refused to call off the ongoing strike by the state chapter of the Academic staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
DAILY POST gathered that Governor Yahaya Bello remains unyielding about his decision to sack the striking lecturers as they failed to resume work on 24th July, 2017.
Governor Yahaya Bello had last week Wednesday in his proclamation banning the activities of ASUU- KSU chapter, directed the Governing Council, the Management of the Institution and the Kogi State Ministry of Education to:
“Deem all academic staff of the Institution who do not resume their normal academic activities immediately as having resigned from the employment of the Kogi State Government and the University, and to treat them accordingly.
“Take steps to immediately find and engage suitable replacements for all crucial staff vacancies, including those who have left, may wish to leave or who are deemed to have left the service of the Kogi State Government and the University pursuant upon this Proclamation.
“Start the process of employing all categories of academic staff required by the Institution based on need assessment.”
In an advertorial credited to the state-owned institution, the recruitment will cut across its 7 faculties, namely: Agriculture, Arts and Humanities, Education, Law, Management Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and College of Health Sciences.
Kogi State University, Anyigba, has been on strike since 3rd February, 2017.
ASUU is yet to react to this development as of the time of filing this report.
