Inmates Of Nigeria Kirikiri Prison Are In “Hell On Earth”
LAGOS NOVEMBER 24TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Whenever the name KIRIKIRI comes to my hearing, I quickly feel melted within me as I carefully imagine what the inmates in the prison would be experiencing at the very moment.
Kirikiri happens to be a rural area in the Amuwo-Odofin LGA of Lagos State. The prison we’re talking about gained its name from the area, and believe me you wouldn’t want to visit that place.
The place is so terrible that every Prisoners of this prison must have begged for death once in their stay over there.
The Kirikiri Maximum prison is famous for it’s overcrowded population of mostly black prisoners who are ill-fated and unfortunate to the sub-standard condition that has been one of the terrible things it’s inmates faces.
Their Medical Care system is nothing to write good about, there is hardly an adequate provision of medicinal substances for these poor inmates to ingest so as to improve their health condition.
These are very ironical, compared to situations of prisons in the developed nations of today. The prison-life of an American citizen is almost better that an average free man in Nigeria. They get their medicines at the right and stipulated time, they are well fed, in fact they get involved in sport activities.
Their wards are beautifully tiled, TVs are placed in each ward to enhance their social knowledge; to keep them aware about what’s going on through watching of NEWS. In fact they hardly record death rate for they are well taken care of.
In conclusion, I will urge the Nigeria government to always assign a portion of the National budget to these inmates for their healthy living and proper up keep…
