Gunmen Kill Ogun So-Safe Corps Commander During Celestial Church Service

Some gunmen have killed 54-year-old Prophet Yomi Adetula of a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Adetula, who was also the Commander of Ogun State Internal Security Agency, was brutally shot dead on Sunday when the assailants invaded the church’s Eagle Parish along Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko, around 10:30am and opened fire at him during the church service.

A source in the area also identified the deceased as Commander Yomi Adetula of So-Safe Corps Idi-Iroko, a security arm of the state government.

“He was the Shepherd in charge, Celestial Church of Christ, Idi Iroko, Ogun State. He was killed in the church this morning while he was preaching,” the source said.

“I learnt six men entered the church armed with Ak-47 and cutlasses. They shot and dismembered him inside the church.”

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident to journalists in a statement said that the killers numbering three shot at Adetula who appeared to be the target and slashed his head with an axe.

Odutola said, “Police officers raced to the scene and saw on Yomi Adetula, ‘M’, aged 54 years lifeless in the pool of blood which stained his white celestial garment lying face up.

“On careful observation, his body was riddled with bullets and his head was not spared – to ensure the victim was really dead, it was mangled with an axe.

“On police inquiry, information further gathered that three men came into the church, brought out a long double barrel gun aimed at their target and fired a shot that brought the deceased down.”

The police spokesperson added that the corpse of the deceased had been evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital Morgue, Ilaro.

According to Odutola, the command has launched a manhunt to arrest the suspects who fled into the border area after the attack.

She however said that normalcy has been restored in the area, while possible clues will be revealed in the coming days as investigation has been launched into the incident.
