Friends Of Suspected Badoo Kingpin Dares Lagos CP, Demands Evidence Of Prosecution

LAGOS JANUARY 16TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Lagos State Police Command and the wanted suspected Badoo kingpin, Alhaji Alaka Abayomi, were, yesterday, embroiled in a war of words over the latter’s resolve not to show up to answer questions bordering on his alleged involvement with the killer-cult group.
While Alaka insisted that he would not want his case to be investigated by the Command, which he accused of being biased, his friends have challenged the Command to make public its evidence against Alaka as the one behind several killings in Ikorodu area of Lagos.
They have also dared the Command to state why Alaka was granted bail without a surety, if its claim that he was a murderer was anything to go by.
However, in a swift response, the Command explained that Alaka was granted an administrative bail, which entailed that he must show up whenever he was wanted. It, therefore, called on him to turn himself in and have his day in court.
Recall that the Lagos State Police Command, last month, declared Alaka wanted in connection with series of orchestrated killings by the Badoo cult group. However, the 51-year-old independent oil marketer has refused to show up, stating rather that he would want the case to be transferred outside Lagos.
The command’s boss, Imohimi Edgal, had advised that the suspect was free to report at any of the Police stations in the country, noting that the force is one. But till date, Alaka has not shown up.
Alaka’s camp Speaking on behalf of Alaka’s friends, Mr. Tunde Kukute, a legal practitioner, told Vanguard that he flew into the country after he got wind of his friend’s case with the Police, stating that the case also rubbed off on them. He said the issue was beyond the surface and, therefore, challenged the Lagos State Police Command to declare openly the evidence it has against Alaka. He also requested to find out why Alaka was released twice by the Command during its earlier investigation into the case.
Kutuke’s words: “Abayomi is a childhood friend. If indeed he has anything with Badoo as claimed by the Police, why was he released twice by the Command even after it confirmed that he was involved in the death of a couple in Ipakodo?
“Secondly, why was Alaka released without the Police referring the case to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for further advice?
“If, indeed, Alaka was arrested and bailed, can the Command confirm the name of his surety? Is he or she a senator, permanent secretary, ex-governor or a king?
“It is strange to believe that a serial killer can be released on self-recognition after it was announced on the television that Alaka is a killer and leader of Badoo group that has killed many people in Ikorodu.
“Why will a Commissioner of Police release a murder suspect without a surety? If there was a surety, why not arrest him or her to produce the suspect?
“Can the Command provide copy of the statements made by Alaka at the different times he was arrested? This affirms claims by Alhaji Alaka that he was blackmailed because he refused to part with N10 million demanded by the Police.”
He stated that information reaching him had it that the family of the couple killed by Badoo cult at Ipakodo were planning to attack Alaka’s business and family members because of the command’s claim that he (Alaka) was Badoo’s kingpin.
My life is in danger—Alaka Speaking with Vanguard, Alaka stated that he was no longer safe where he was, as he could not move freely as he used to. Asked why he has refused to show up to clear himself, he maintained that he did not want his case to be investigated by the Lagos State Police Command. When advised to show up in any other Police division across the country, he replied: “Even if I show up there, they will still bring me to Lagos and I don’t want to be investigated by the CP of Lagos.
“I have written to the Police Service Commission and the Inspector-General of Police on the need to transfer the investigation outside the Command. But I am yet to receive any response from them.
“I was arrested on June 18, 2017 and released the next day. Again, I was arrested on June 30, 2017, paraded on June 31, 2017 and released on July 1, 2017.
“If indeed I am a murder suspect, will I be released?”
It’s a breach of trust—Police
However, the Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Chike Oti, explained that Alaka was only granted an administrative bail and not acquittal by the court. This, he said, required that he should show up whenever he was wanted. He advised Alaka to show up and have his day in court, describing his action as a breach of trust.
