Fans Want Messi’s World Cup Goal Disallowed
LAGOS DECEMBER 19TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Football fans have called for Lionel Messi’s second strike in the World Cup final to be ruled out – as substitutes were on the pitch.
Messi finally got his hands on the World Cup trophy after, what fans have hailed, the greatest World Cup final of all time. The little magician netted from the spot in the first half, but Argentina saw their two-goal lead evaporate in three minutes.
And deep into extra time, Messi bundled the ball over the line to send Argentina into a 3-2 lead. However, fans pointed out the goal should have been disallowed as Argentina’s substitutes celebrated a bit too early.
One fan fumed: “That goal should be chalked off for Argentina’s subs bench invading the pitch before it went in!”
“Argentina subs were already on the field blud where’s the VAR man,” a second fumed. While a third pointed out: “They had 13 players on the pitch when he scored. With VAR in place, this goal should not have stood!”
And a fourth said: “Sure Argentina subs were on the pitch while the ball was still in play…VAR should have a look!”
