Buhari’s Aide Knocks Doyin Okupe For Revealing Treatment Of Covid-19

LAGOS MAY 15TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Special Assistant to the President on Digital/New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, has knocked a former presidential spokesperson, Doyin Okupe, for revealing the treatment he underwent for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Since been discharged on Tuesday alongside his wife, Aduralere, Mr Okupe has been sharing his story on Twitter.

In reaction to one of his comments, Mr Ogunlesi wrote on Thursday that the information Okupe was sharing on social media could mislead the public.

“You shouldn’t be doing this, sir, especially as a medical doctor. Will mislead so many people. Congrats again on recovery, but none of what you’ve outlined here has been validated for what you’re claiming. No scientific basis for your wild claims,” he said.

Okupe wrote later in the day that he never intended to prescribe a treatment for COVID-19.

“I wish to clarify that I published the drugs I took when I was declared positive for covid19,” he wrote.

“I did this in response to private calls and responses to my posts, asking me what treatment I was given. Hence, in response, I published the medications I took.

“If you develop signs or symptoms suggestive of #Covid19 infections, consult your doctor or contact your local #NCDC (@NCDCgov) for assistance.”

It would be recall that the former presidential spokesperson wrote on Twitter on Thursday that he had malaria during the treatment process and also developed cough.

“I had malaria while on admission. I was effectively treated with an anti-malaria. I also developed cough after about a week and was effectively treated by fairly large dose of Augmentine for 7 days,” he wrote.

Okupe added: “I must warn here that if you have cardiac arrhythmias, you will need to consult your physician before you take hydroxychloroquine. I did.

“So I was advised to use 200mg twice daily, instead of 400mg twice daily for 2days.

“Before the arrival of the results of the swab tests, I put my wife and I on the treatment. My low grade fever disappeared completely and my wife’s bone pains too.

“Personally, I believe the chloroquine combination which is the official treatment regime in Ogun state actually works.”

The Ogun indigene urged the public to boost their immunity, saying: “it is the immunity level that eventually decides the course of the infection in each individual.”

“This is what gives younger people better prospects with the virus. Hence, for those who are not sick, you should ingest immune-boosting drugs and preparations like Zinc Sulphate, immunace and similar immunity-enhancing drugs.

“I also took copious amount of ginger, garlic, tumeric and lemon.

“In Kaduna, I am told that they add dongoyaro leaves to the above mixture and drink liberally,” he added.
