Fuel Queues Resurfaces In Lagos, Abuja, Other Cities
LAGOS JANUARY 22ND(NEWSRANGERS)-Fuel queues resurfaced weekend in major cities of Lagos, Abuja, Nasarawa and other parts of the country despite repeated assurances by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to wet the country with enough petroleum product this new year.
Already, most service stations owned my Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) monitored b were kept under lock and key due to unavailability of the product.
Besides, independent petroleum outlets, which also turned their backs on customers at their stations, were without the product. Few of the stations that had the product were filled with vehicular queues while motorists struggled to gain access into the stations.
There are fears that the development would severely impact on business activities if loading of product does not improve today.
The return of fuel queues was due to shortfall in the supply of fuel to marketers by NNPC, which is the sole importer of the product.
Meanwhile long vehicular queues have characterised service stations in Abuja as the scarcity continued to a worsening dimension with a lot of stations remaining shut.
Long vehicular queues extended few kilometres from any service station where fuel is being expected as motorists queue up leaving their work places for hours on end in wait for the scarce product.
The queues which also obstructed traffic flow in the city brought about traffic gridlocks making movements difficult for commuters and motorists.
The situation is becoming unbearable as it brought with it a lull in business activities, astronomical increase in transport fares, and general negative impact on social activities.
From Kubwa to Mararaba, and from Bwari to Area 1 in Abuja the situation was the same as discouraging queues and grieving motorists formed the hallmark of filling stations in the city.
