LAGOS JULY 7TH (NEWSRNAGERS)-The World Cup Round of 16 ends Tuesday after a wild day of action Monday that saw Spain oust Portugal and Belgium throttle the U.S. men’s national team.
Lionel Messi and Argentina kicked things off in the early game with a thrilling 3-2 comeback against Egypt. Messi delivered the equalizer in the 83rd minute and then Enzo Fernandez capped things off with a game winner in stoppage time for Argentina’s third goal in 15 minutes. Messi’s goal put him back in the lead of the Golden Boot race.
In the afternoon game, Colombia will take on Switzerland. Colombia hasn’t allowed a goal in its past three World Cup matches. Switzerland is in the Round of 16 for the fourth consecutive World Cup but has not advanced to the quarterfinals since 1954.
The winners of the two games will meet in Kansas City on Saturday.
