LAGOS NOVEMBER 8TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected terrorist, Auta Maikyala, at a hospital in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where he reportedly sought treatment for a gunshot wound sustained during an encounter with a rival faction.
The arrest was carried out on Thursday, November 5, by troops of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, working alongside operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), following an intelligence-led operation.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Captain Tamuno Sinivie, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect was receiving treatment when troops apprehended him.
“The suspect was arrested at a hospital in Kagarko,” Sinivie said.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is an alleged notorious criminal who has been involved in several attacks on communities, kidnapping and cattle rustling operations,” the statement said.
Maikyala reportedly sustained the gunshot injury during an encounter with a rival faction before seeking medical attention.
The Army said the suspect remained in custody for further investigation and prosecution as security operatives continued efforts to track down individuals linked to criminal activities in the region.
In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops conducted clearance operations in Aljummu Hausa, Aljummu Fulani and Tunga Magaji villages in Maradun Local Government Area on Thursday. The military said the operation targeted terrorist hideouts and was aimed at restricting the activities of armed groups in the communities.
The Joint Task Force also disclosed that the Nigerian Air Force carried out air interdiction operations against locations suspected to be linked to wanted terrorist kingpin, Dogo Gide, in Babban Doka and Kuyumbana Forest, both in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The military said intelligence reports indicated that suspected terrorists had gathered in the locations to plan and coordinate criminal activities. It added that troops were maintaining control of the surrounding areas after the operations.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said it would sustain military operations across its joint operational area and urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies to assist in identifying and apprehending suspected criminals.
The operations form part of ongoing security efforts to tackle kidnapping, cattle rustling and other armed criminal activities across Kaduna and Zamfara states.
