Senate President Stuck In 3-Hour Traffic Jam On Deteriorated Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Road

OGUN ROAD

LAGOS OCTOBER 17TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The convoy of Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio and Governor Dapo Abiodun found themselves stuck in a traffic jam for a grueling three hours on the deteriorated Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta route. This happened over the weekend.

They were joined by other notable figures, including Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, Senator Adams Oshiomohle, Senator Sani Bello, and more, en route to Ilaro for the grand culmination of the 2023 Yewa Cultural Festival, a week-long event celebrating culture, tradition, music, cuisine, and dance.

According to the punch, this festival took place at the state-of-the-art Empire Field pavilion in Ilaro, the administrative centre of Yewa South Local Government Area.

During the event, Senator Akpabio personally recounted the hardship experienced by Nigerians traveling on this road and vowed to provide the necessary assistance to Ogun State to facilitate the road’s reconstruction.

This is what he said: “The 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is going to get the list of things you want us to do here.

“I saw the road; two trucks fell on the road, so we ended up spending over two hours on the road. I was determined to go through the road that you go through. Now, I have seen what you have been seeing. From today on, I prophesy that your roads are done.

“Yewaland has the greatest number of industries that a local government can ever have in Nigeria. Therefore, we recognise the need to use the best set of contractors to do your roads because of the wear and tear. I assure you that we will be working with our brother, Dapo Abiodun. Your lives will not be the same again,” he continued.

During the event, Senator Akpabio also took the opportunity to offer valuable advice to the youth in Yewaland and the broader state, urging them to steer clear of drug use and fraudulent activities. He assured them that by leading an honest and clean life, they would experience improved prospects for their future.

In his earlier address, Governor Abiodun implored the Senate to use its influence to encourage the Federal Government to delegate the responsibility for reconstructing the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Road to the state.

He stressed the road’s pivotal role in the socio-economic advancement of the state, emphasising that the journey from Abeokuta to Ilaro, which took him three hours, highlighted the pressing need for this transfer. Governor Abiodun lamented that the state’s previous efforts to secure the road transfer had not yielded positive outcomes.

This is what Governor Abiodun said: “I also want to announce to you that I am currently concluding discussions with the Minister of Works on the reconstruction of the Abeokuta-Olorunda-Imeko Road and the completion of the Abeokuta-Iboro-Ilaro Road. This will complement the Imasayi-Iborro-Ayetoro Road.

“Mr. Senate President, it took me three hours to get here from Abeokuta. I am sure it took you just as much to get here from Lagos because of the deplorable state of the Lagos-Abeokuta Road. Mr. Senate President, please help us with the Federal Government to transfer this road to us. This road is very key to our socio-economic development.”

The Olu of Ilaro and the paramount leader of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, expressed their appreciation for the presence of the Senate President and the governor at the grand conclusion of the festival. He revealed that this festival would become a biennial tradition.

A noteworthy moment during the event was the conferral of an award of excellence upon Governor Abiodun and the official appointment of the Senate President as the Are Fiwagboye of Yewaland.
