Fuel Subsidy Removal: Car Owners Abandon Vehicles For Auto Mechanics
LAGOS JULY 8TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Auto mechanics in Umuahia, Abia State, are complaining of low patronage since the removal of fuel subsidy.
They are lamenting that some of their customers have refused to collect their vehicles from workshops, even after work had been completed on the cars.
Speaking to DAILY POST correspondent in Umuahia, some of the mechanics lamented that earnings from their businesses nosedived from June following the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.
According to Cletus Iwundu and Kelechi Nonso, many car owners have dumped their cars in mechanic workshops even after they (mechanics) had concluded work on those vehicles.
They lamented that the situation had led to clustering of their workshops by uncollected cars.
The auto mechanics said their customers were complaining of their inability to maintain their cars because of economic hardship.
Apart from this, the mechanics disclosed that some car owners have even mandated them to look for buyers for their cars as buying petrol at N530 per litre was becoming hard.
“Some of my customers told me that they will collect their cars after they receive their salaries”, said Nonso.
A trip by our correspondent around Ohiya auto mechanic, the largest auto market in Umuahia, along Enugu-Port Harcourt Express Way and some other mechanic workshops in Umuahia, confirmed the situation.
