Travelers Lose Cash, Valuables As Robbers Take Lagos Mile 2-Badagry Expressway
LAGOS MAY 2ND (NEWSRANGERS)-Armed robbers have laid siege to the Mile 2-Badagry Expressway in Lagos State, robbing travellers brazenly daily.
They target traders particularly in the morning and at night between Alakija and Volks Bus Stop.
On Sunday, the hoodlums blocked the road around Volks and robbed passengers who were left to their fate.
One of the victims said the robbers collected about N200,000 and his phones from him.
The victim, who identified himself as Emeka, alleged that the robbers, who are mostly in their early 20s, came out from the centre of the road where there were bushes brandishing guns and cutlasses.
“They were over 10 operating in twos. They moved from one vehicle to another, collecting valuables from passengers.
“There was little traffic around Agric bus stop because some minibuses were driving against traffic.
“Passengers who saw them coming early scampered away, while those who could not disembark were robbed. Some of us were also wounded,” he added.
Another victim, who identified himself as Ojo, said the attack on travellers either at Alakija or Volks has become a daily occurrence.
“I was coming back from work on Friday when our bus ran into the urchins before the bridge at Alakija. The robbers ambushed us on top of the bridge. It took them less than 10 minutes and they left.
“By the time it ended, they left some people with injuries. Those who did not have money or good phones on them were matcheted. I got some slaps because I handed over my phones and money to them willingly. To me it was better to let go off my valuables than to get killed,” he said.
He said while the operation was on, incoming vehicles who got wind of it parked and only moved when they were sure that the urchins had left.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, did not pick his calls nor reply to text messages sent to him on the incident.
