‘Sunday Igboho Poisoned In Cotonou Prison’
LAGOS OCTOBER 20TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Controversial blogger and daughter of a former Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo, alleges that the Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, alias Sunday Igboho, has been poisoned in the Benin Republic prison where he is being held.
THEWILL had recently reported that Igboho was said to be sick in the prison where he was being held in custody at Cotonou, the Benin capital, pending a court case alleging he induced officials to grant him the country’s passport illegally.
Kemi made her poisoning allegation in a post she released on Monday evening at 7.35pm, tweeting:
“#BREAKING Sunday lgboho has been poisoned in a Cotonou prison.
His kidney function is deteriorating and Yoruba Nation is silent.
“Where is the cash donated for him?
“Cotonou authorities need to be questioned on what he consumed.
“He had a healthy kidney before arrest.
“#Kemitalks.”
An October 13 THEWILL report headlined, “Sunday Igboho Struck By Strange Illness, Lawyer Raises Alarm,” said the leader of Yoruba secessionist agitators reportedly fell ill in prison in Benin Republic from an undisclosed ailment.
His lawyer, Yomi Aliyu, made the disclosure in an interview with BBC Yoruba, saying Igboho was rushed to the hospital for treatment, and further reported that: “Igboho was not diagnosed with this sickness before he was arrested in Cotonou. It was so critical that they had to rush him to the hospital.
“I can’t tell if he has been returned to the prison from the hospital but what I know is, he’s battling ill health and it seems his kidney and lungs are already being affected.
“Even though I cannot tell which part of his body the sickness has really affected, I know it has to do with his internal organs.”
Igboho was arrested in Cotonou by the country’s gendarmes on the night of Monday July 19 after fleeing Nigeria to evade arrest by Nigeria’s secret police.
He and his wife took that route in order to escape through Cotonou reportedly with his destination as Germany.
His ordeal began after the Department of State Services (DSS) carried out a deadly midnight raid on his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State, and killed two of his associates, while arresting 14 others.
