Suicide: Patient Stabs Self To Death In University Of Benin Teaching Hospital


LAGOS JULY 17TH (NEWRANGERS)-A patient whose identity could not be ascertained committed suicide at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on Saturday night. It was gathered that the incident occurred at the Accident and Emergency (A & E) Ward of the hospital.
It was further revealed that the victim committed suicide with a broken louvre while waiting for a doctor to attend to him.
Daily Trust further learnt that the deceased’s wife went to buy items at a nearby shop within the hospital’s premises when the incident happened.
A witness said they don’t know what might have happened that made him to commit suicide.
”While waiting for the doctor, the man suddenly became wild and stabbed himself to death with a broken louvre”, he said.
Responding, the spokesman of UBTH, Joshua Uwaila, said it happened on Saturday night at the male ward of the hospital.
“An unfortunate incident happened on Saturday night July 13, at about 10:30 pm when a young man who was a patient at the male medical ward of our hospital suddenly broke a louvre and stabbed himself,”.
” All efforts to resuscitate him proved abortive as he was certified dead at 11:00 pm. The result of autopsy is being awaited at the moment,” he said.
