Spirit Of Sportsmanship: Tyson Fury Invites Wilder, His Family To Florida For Christmas

LAGOS DECEMBER 19TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Tyson Fury has invited heavyweight rival Deontay Wilder to spend Christmas with him and his family in Florida to reflect on their sensational trilogy of fights.

The pair squared off in three unbelievable battles in as many years to determine the greatest of this era.

After a contentious draw in Los Angeles in 2018, Fury prevailed twice by emphatically stopping the ‘Bronze Bomber’ to be crowned the WBC and Ring Magazine heavyweight champion.

However, the 33-year-old admitted in an interview with the Daily Mail the fights would ‘take years off our lives’ and they both would ‘feel the effects of this in our later days.’

Having climbed off the canvas four times across the trilogy, Fury knows first-hand just how devastating a puncher Wilder is – with the Brit to only man to ever face Wilder and not be knocked out.

Despite watching heavyweight greats like Muhammad Ali and Evander Holyfield succumb to the terrifying effects of heavyweight wars waged in decades gone by, the ‘Gypsy King’ never feared his American adversary.

“I fear only God,’ he said. “Never worried about fighting any man. And I always expect every heavyweight to carry a massive punch.

“So no. But I was aware that here was a champion with the special capacity to switch off any human with just one hit.

“Perhaps the heaviest puncher of all time.”

He added: “Some boxers have fantastic chins. But my powers of recovery are unique.

“Deontay’s not the first to put me down. But like the others he’s found out that I always get up. Always.”

Fury is currently renting a house in Orlando, Florida over the Christmas period and his invited Wilder and his family, saying ‘we are right handy for Disney World.’

It paints a far different picture to when the pair scrapped at almost every opportunity in the build-up to their first fight, or when Wilder accused Fury of cheating after their second fight.

However, the current heavyweight champion has since mellow after spending so much time in Wilder’s company and has nothing but respect for him.

He concluded: “I am proud to have shared a very special time with Deontay in the ring which has brought us both more fame and respect.

“Neither of us will ever forget being part of what people are calling one of the greatest of all heavyweight fights.

“Nor will the people who watched it.”
