Residents Cry Out Over Unlawful Demolition Of Their Houses By Lagos Govt

DEMOLITION

LAGOS JANUARY 12TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Residents of Candid Estate, Araromi near Okoafo, Badagry, Lagos State have expressed discontent over the demolition of their buildings by the state government.

The demolition was executed by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), residents confirmed to SaharaReporters.

According to them, there was no quit notice issued to them by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration and LASBCA authorities prior to the demolition exercise.

They added that they were intimidated with policemen, soldiers and hoodlums.

“LASBCA served us quit notice on December 7, 2022 and started demolishing properties of residents on 8th December 2022. There was no prior notice not court order,” one of the residents told SaharaReporters.

“This is a state where we give vent to democracy and justice. You rendered those you sworn to protect homeless. Our leaders run an elitist government and show no mercy to the masses.

“They care not about what will be left of them. The agency terrorised civilians, deployed thugs in hundreds and state police to destroy hard earned property of people.

“They came to the community on the 7th of December. They were in large numbers, which consisted hundreds of thugs with guns and other weapons. They were escorted by some police officers and men in army uniforms.

“They spoke no  to anyone but marked every building for demolition. The community executives met with them that same night to know what they  wanted. They gave different accounts that somebody had bought the land 80 years ago while they also claimed the lands are acquisition lands.

“The following day, they started demolishing houses and those that could afford to pay them were spared. That was the case for two days until the agency that supervised their actions told them to pull back given the directive of Lagos state government. Now, the government claimed not to be aware of such, yet the disbanded the Lagos state building agency control.”
