LAGOS JULY 18TH (NEWSRANGERS)-In a recent video on Nigeria Info FM official YouTube channel on Friday July 17th, 2026, a teacher, Mr. Zacchaeus, who was recently rescued alongside other abductees following their kidnapping in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has narrated the harsh conditions they endured during their seven-week captivity.
Speaking after regaining his freedom, Zacchaeus said he and the other victims survived on two meals a day, consisting mainly of rice, a small quantity of beans, seasoning cubes, salt and oil.
“We were literally eating twice a day, in the morning and in the evening,” he said.
According to him, the captives were never served pepper throughout their stay in the forest.
“The food they were giving us was just rice, little beans with Maggi and oil. Throughout our stay in that place, we did not taste anything called pepper,” he said.
He added that the situation worsened after the kidnappers ran out of beans, forcing the victims to survive on plain rice mixed with seasoning cubes and salt.
“When the beans finished, we were eating only rice, Maggi and salt. We ate that for seven good weeks,” Zacchaeus stated.
The rescued teacher’s account provides a glimpse into the difficult conditions endured by the victims while in captivity.
Zacchaeus was released alongside other abductees after spending about seven weeks in the kidnappers’ den. Their freedom has been welcomed by residents, relatives and stakeholders, who described the rescue as a huge relief after weeks of anxiety.
The victims are currently receiving medical attention and psychosocial support, while security agencies continue efforts to apprehend those behind the abduction.
