Protesting Angry Strippers March To Police Station After Two Weeks Without Pay
LAGOS OCTOBER 30TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Thirty angry strippers marched to a police station in Thailand’s Pattaya on Tueday to complain that they had not been paid for the last two weeks.
The women from the Walking Street strip of clubs in Thailand’s ‘Sin City’ of Pattaya – dubbed the sex capital of the world – were furious after their boss disappeared.
They claimed that they had been working since October 14 without their agreed pay of 1,200 baht (30 GBP) per night. The business has been struggling so much recently that the owner had repeatedly missed the deadline to pay their wages before running away, they said.
The women formed a makeshift union and stormed to the local station where they claimed to have been cheated by the owner, who is from Europe. They told the police that they have not received any payment from the Hidden Agogo club owner, who now owed more than 400,000 baht (15,532 GBP) to his stable of dancers.
Representative Nong Gift, 29, told police they would dance all night in stilettos, but were allowed to keep tips from customers for themselves. She said: “We have been working since October 14 without pay. We have a 10-day rolling contract and receive 1,200 baht a night.” “However, on October 24, which was the date that we should receive the money, the foreign owner postponed it and said that he will pay us on October 28. Then today we could not contact him.” “We need the police to help us because we have nowhere else to go and we also desperately need our money as most of us have families to support.
“We will contact every authority we can until we receive the money that belongs to us.” Police Major Thanin Kanpai filed a report and suggested the dancers report the case to the provincial Department of Labour.
He said: “This type of case is overseen by the Chonburi Department of Labour, so I suggested they report it there, for more direct action that they were expecting.”
