Police Nab Nursing Mother With Two AK47 Rifles Concealed In Her Baby’s Bag


LAGOS JUNE 20TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old nursing mother, Simeon Esther, for allegedly concealing two AK 47 rifles inside her baby’s bag.
Detectives attached to Ilaje/Ese Odo Local Government Area of the state arrested the suspect, who is currently cooling her heels in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Akure.
Findings revealed that the suspect was arrested by policemen who acted on a tip-off.
The woman, it was gathered, could not give a satisfactory explanation as to how she came about the dangerous weapons concealed in her bag and was moved to Akure, the state capital, after interrogation by the Police at Ilaje.
A competent police source who spoke under condition of anonymity said that the suspect had given useful information to the Police.
The source explained that the suspect was transiting within a neighbouring community with her six-month-old baby when nemesis caught up with her.
Reports had it that the husband of the suspect has since absconded after he got the news that his wife has been arrested.
In an interview with newsmen, Esther said:
“On Wednesday, my husband, Bright Gbade, called me and asked me to go and deliver the bag to somebody in Ogun State. He did not even tell me the name of the person, he only told me that the person will call me. I did not know the content of the bag and they did not even allow me to carry the bag. They carried the bag themselves to the motor park. .
“It was while we were on our way that the policemen searched the bag and found the gun in it. We have been married for two years and I did not know that my husband is a criminal. He said he is a fisherman when he was asking me out and before I accepted his proposal, he said he was one of the militants who surrendered their weapons during the amnesty programme.
“I even relocated to my mother’s house because of the way he treats me. I was at my mother’s house when he called me to help him deliver the bag in Ogun State and he promised to give me N5000 but he ended up not giving me.”
