A Kenyan man is in deep pain after losing five members of his family in the ill-fated Ethiopian Airlines’ crash which occurred on Sunday, March 10.
John Karanja lost his wife, Anne Wangoi, daughter Caroline Nduta, and three grandsons among them Kelly and Ruby in the accident which left 157 dead.
In a candid interview at the JKIA, on Monday, March 11, Karanja who was yet to come to terms with the unfortunate incident, said he would one day question God why his loved ones would disappear not to be seen again within a blink of an eye.
The crestfallen man who mustered courage to narrate the grief, said his daughter had joyfully spoken to him about two hours before the plane’s takeoff.
According to him, Nduta was excited she about coming back home but expressed a feeling of unexplained fear.
”I communicated to them two hours before the flight. My daughter sent me a message. It was like she was expecting something. She said she was excited but she had fear in her and she did not know why. I did not know what message she was conveying to me. I lost three grandsons, a daughter and my wife,” he said.
According to him, his pain was so intense and that though he was unable to question God at that moment, his creator would have to explain it at the end of time.
”I am not even able to tell you what kind of a wife she was. She was not only a wife, she was a friend to the entire family, a mentor and a very supportive person. She has helped me a lot and the only gift I could give to her was to go and visit our daughter for three months because I had never taken her out.”
“I don’t know what will happen or who I will question. People say it is God’s will, one day I will go and see God and he will have to explain to me why he took the family like, but now I have nothing to say,” he added.
He wrapped up by asking people to pray for his family and others who lost their loved ones in the crash.
The plane crash that claimed the five members of the family also left families and friends of 156 other victims equally in deep pain and tears.
The total of 157 people, 149 passengers and eight crew members who were on board the Ethiopian flight which had just taken off from Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, en-route to Nairobi, Kenya, perished.
Preliminary reports released by the airline revealed 32 Kenyans and two notable Nigerians died in the Sunday morning tragedy.
