Nigerians Demand For The Where About Of Amotekun After Serial Killings, Kidnapping In Ogun

LAGOS NOVEMBER 29TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Where is Amotekun?, That is the question that is on the lips of so many people after the series of attacks that happened in Ondo state this week.

Earlier in the week, Olu Falae who is a former secretary to the Government of Nigeria under the Babagida regime, and a farmer based in Ondo State, called on the Amotekun corp to come to his rescue after his farm was invaded, attacked and burnt by  alleged by herdsmen.

Vanguard newspaper reported that Olu Falae wrote a letter titled “save our soul” to the commandant of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeyele, to come to his rescue and not allow the ugly incident that happened back in 2015 to repeat itself, saying he does not want it be kidnapped again.

Olu Falae said that in the last two weeks, herdsmen has allegedly invaded his farm twice to eat, trample and destroy a large portion of his farmland. He said he has already reported the invasion to the Chairman of Miyetti Allah in In Ogun state and nothing has been done. So this has prompted him to call on the Amotekun corp to come to his rescue.

Moving on from Olu Falae’s case, on Thursday, 26th of November 2020, the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Isreal Adeusi, a Monarch, was killed by gunmen at the Elegbeka area of Ose Local government in Ondo state. Shortly after the attack on the Oba, another incident happened again in the State, where the wife of the Chief of Staff to the state Governor, Olugbenga Ale, was kidnapped by Gunmen. The kidnapped victim was abducted around the Owena, in the Idanre council area of the state, she was reported to be returning from Lagos when the incident happened.

Also on Friday, 27th of November 2020, Gunmen were reported to have killed a police officer while attempting to kidnap a Chinese national, that was reported to be one of the engineers working on the dualization of the Ado-Iyin road in Ondo state. So, these various incidents that has happened amongst others, is the reason why people are asking the question, “where is Amotekun”.

Just do you know, the Amotekun corp was established on the 9th of January, 2020, as a security outfit for each state in the South West region, to tackle kidnapping and incessant killings that is allegedly perpetuated by herdsmen in the region.

In Ondo state the Amotekun corps bill was signed into law by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu after the Federal Government and South West governors concluded that the security outfit be established as a security agency in each state instead of being a regional security outfit.

Governor Akeredolu in his speech while signing the bill said, Amotekun corps will be deployed strictly for security purposes, he also said members of the corp will work closely with the police on matters related, but not limited to kidnapping, farmers and herdsmen clashes, sea piracy amongst others.

The Amotekun corp in Ondo State is now officially known as Ondo State security network agency, and it has began operation officially in the state.

In conclusion, I think the state governors need to charge the Amotekun corp to work harder in tackling the various issues it was established for, even though they are still new to tackling security issues as they just got established not long ago, notwithstanding I still think they can do more.
