Nigerian Bloggers Fall For “Chip Whip” Plate Number Hoax As Kano Chief Whip Denies Allegation
LAGOS NOVEMBER 4TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Several Nigerian bloggers have fallen victim of an online hoax that is supposedly meant to be the plate number of Kano state house of assembly’s “Chief Whip”, but was mis-spelt as “CHIP WHIP”.
The chief whip, Ayuba Durum has come out to deny the allegations, In clearing the air Ayuba Durum said that the state government has not allocated official vehicles to the government officials, hence there was no way he could have had the plate number on his own personal vehicle as it is an official plate number, he went further by stating:
Quote,“I was baffled by a torrent of messages drawing my attention to a gaffe on a number plate purported to be mine.
“To set the records straight, members of the Kano State House of Assembly are yet to be assigned any official vehicles.
“I use my private vehicle with a regular not customised number plate. My vehicle registration number is Gaya, Kano, and whoever knows me can verify this,”Unfortunately, several Nigerian blogs and media outlets have wrongly reported that the official plate number belonged to Ayuba Durum, the chief whip of Kano state house of assembly without carrying out any form of research or investigation to validate the story.
The legislator said he had directed his lawyers to get to the roots of the matter and take appropriate legal action.
Earlier on Sunday, the Federal Road Safety Corps disowned the misspelt customized number plate and ordered for investigation.
