LAGOS DECEMBER 30TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Health is wealth. This seems to be the prime philosophy of one of the greatest humanitarian organizations in the world. Based in Canada and known as Nigeria Association for Young Adults of Canada and USA (NAYA), since 2013, the association has been involved in massive quality health care delivery programs by donating free medical equipment and supplies worth millions of dollar to several hospitals in Nigeria.

This year alone, specifically in January, Abia state was blessed with medical equipment worth N540 million. Madonna Hospital Umuahia is one of the major beneficiaries. And in November 21st , Niger State got medical equipment worth N784million through the Federal Medical Center.

Some of the hospitals that have enjoyed the humanitarian gestures of the association so far include Mbutu Mbaise in Imo state (2013); Seven community hospitals in Zuru, Kebbi State (2014) and 20 ft container of medical supplies worth millions of Naira to hospitals in Zuru, Kebbi State (2015). In the same 2015, some hospitals in Balyesa state were also touched while in 2016, it was the turn of Osun State hospital in Iwo.

In 2017, the gestures were extended to several hospitals in Ogun State through Obasanjo Foundation.

Yet determined to see a better Nigeria, the association does not resist itself to medicals alone but simultaneously spreading its tentacle to the education sector in the country through provision of necessary materials that could foster qualitative education. The array of materials provided since 2013 to Universities, Polytechnics and primary educations (Secondary/Primary Schools)include laptops, projectors, journals and textbooks among others.

The Group  mission does not end there as many rural communities in the country have also enjoyed several thousand pieces of clothing and hygienic kits for young girls to encourage child girl wellness.

And in Canada where the association is based, it has also involved in lots of mentoring programmes to assist many local and international Nigerian students in post-secondary institutions to be academically successful, secure scholarships, assist with study and work permits and also helps with transition from student statusto permanent resident status among other activities.

According to the President of the association, Mr. Sola Agboola who hails from Ila-Oragun, Osun State, the motivation behind the mission was because of the good life the members are enjoying in Canada, which they feel could be replicated in Nigeria as the country is well blessed with multiplicity of resources.

“We believe Nigeria is endowed enough to enjoy good life like any other country in the world. In Canada, virtually everything is free” he added.

He however disclosed that Hope International has been of tremendous assistance in facilitating their activities.

His words: “Hope International is the intermediary between our organization and government. It has been responsible for all equipments to Nigeria”

He also lauded the involvement of His Eminence, Arcbishop Mustapha Benjamin of Restoration Praise Ministries International, who is equally reputable for his robust poverty alleviation programmes.

“At a point when we were struggling for shipping of our equipment to Nigeria, he came in financially to help us because of his love for what we are doing”, he explained.

Agboola will also not forget former Nigeria  President OlusegunObasanjo for his highly instructive advice when the association had a meeting with him. The advice, he said, has made the association to widen its coast to help Nigeria.

“He said it doesn’t matter how much you give Nigeria, it wouldn’t eradicate poverty. So we should rather use our contacts to attract investors and we are already doing that”.
