Lagos: Three Dead, 150 Vehicles Destroyed As Hoodlums Terrorize Mushin Residents

LAGOS NOVEMBER 19TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Residents of Mushin area of Lagos did not sleep on Sunday and Monday night due to the nefarious activity of hoodlums that invaded the area raining gun shots.

The incident has left three persons dead, about 120 vehicles and 50 shops destroyed and vandalized.

The attack which was said to have started about 8pm on Sunday evening while a social function organized in Showunmi-Alafia Street was on going degenerated to a full-blown violence extending to Monday with its peak at Daniel Street, Alafia and Idi-Araba areas.

The hoodlums destroyed and looted about 50 shops and 150 vehicles carting away with various items and attacking residents in the area.

A staff of the Delta State Liaison Office, Lagos who resides in the area, Julie Otoikhine said, “It was hell yesterday, I could not believe that after the raid on Sunday night, the hoodlums could still come back and continued their attack in broad day light on Monday”.

According to her, distress calls to the Nigeria police was not responded to on time.

Another eye witness, Mr Peter Sunday said they did not sleep, adding: “I saw them with my own eyes breaking into shops and stealing”, while Folakemi Jide said, “Mushin turned into a battle ground with hoodlums looting, fighting and throwing bottles at themselves” saying, many residents had to flee their homes for safety.

The arrival of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force with about nine patrol vans and armoured vehicles later on Monday helped to restore as the area was almost deserted with persons, commercial and vehicular movement paralyzed; leaving the streets littered with lots of broken bottles, burnt tires and destroyed items.
