Lagos Lawyer Faults Governors’ Claim Of Not Unable To Pay N60k Minimum Wage
LAGOS JUNE 8TH (NEWSRNAGERS)-Lagos lawyer and human right activities, Chief (Barr) Malcolm Omirhobo has faulted the claim by Nigeria Governors Forum of not being able to pay N60,000 minimum wage.
He recommend that state governments that cannot sustain the N60,000.00 .00 minimum wage should be merged with other capable states because it is absolutely wrong for us to create states for the fun of it
Recall that the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has rejected the N60,000 minimum wage proposed by the Federal Government. Their rejection contradicts the federal government’s commitment to a minimum wage exceeding N60,000. According to the governors, N60,000 as minimum wage is not sustainable and can not fly.
Reacting to the rejection of the N60,000 minimum wage by the Governors in his X Page, Omirhobo who begged to differ with the Governors claim argued that if only the NFG can be honest with itself , there are some states government that can afford to pay N100, 000.00 minimum wage to their workers not to talk of the proposed N60,000 .00 minimum wage that is not up to lunch money of governors .
Omirhobo disclosed that there is no poor state in Nigeria if every state taps and explore their human and natural resources.
He explained that as it stands today many state governments are lazy and not visionary as they fail to think outside the box or venture outside their comfort zones.
According to him, “Again , our governors are transactional and transformational in their approach to governance which gives room to maladministration , misappropriation and massives looting of public funds .
“The NGF fear that if the N60,000 minimum wage is adopted, many states would allocate their entire Federal Account Allocation Committee funds to salaries, leaving no resources for development project and that a few states will end up borrowing to pay workers every month is not true .
“In fact , I recommend that state governments that cannot sustain the N60,000.00 .00 minimum wage should be merged with other capable states because it is absolutely wrong for us to create states for the fun of it .
“ It is shameful and embarrassing that state governments must go to Abuja every month cap in hand to collect money to run their government instead of internally generating sufficient funds to sustain themselves . What are we talking about here , paltry sum of N60,000.00 that is not up to lunch money of governors.”
