Illegal Refinery, Oil Theft Are Act Of Economic Sabotage-Bayelsa NSCDC Boss

LAGOS JULY 9TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has reiterated its position that pipeline vandalism, illegal oil refinery and oil theft and other related crimes still remained an act of economic sabotage against the growth and development of the country as such the organization is fully prepared and strategized to frontally confront anybody or groups that embarked on these sinister offenses.
The Commandant of NSCDC of Bayelsa state, Godwin Nwachukwu stated this in an interview with News Rangers in Yenagoa.
According to him, the NSCDC is not resting on its oars , but more determined and strategize to ensure that pipe line vandalism , oil theft and illegal bunkering still constitute offence in the NSCDC,s mandate and the command had continuously warned and urged those involved to engage in other meaningful enterprises or relocate to elsewhere because the state is not conducive for them at this moment. ” pipe line vandalism and oil theft will always affect the nation,s economy ” he said . Also The NSCDC frowns at the activities of oil thieves engaging in illegal bunkering and local refinery operations, adding that their activities continue to cause significant damages to the environment and affect revenue streams leading to depreciation of benefits.
He further stated that illegal bunkering and bunkering were not only a cog on the nation,s economic fortunes, but were equally detrimental our environment and biodiversity, as the illegally refined oil and kerosene are vulnerable to explosion that could lead to loss of life and property and also illegally refined fuel can lead to malfunction of vehicles engines which can cause accidents with its catastrophe.” We are always at alert to arrest and prosecute those involved in these nefarious business because they are against the nation,s economy” he said.
He disclosed that the command operates in synergy with other sister security agencies and applauded them for sharing of information that has been leading to arrest of vandals and illegal bunkers in the state .
