Igue Festival: Monarch Bans Burial Rites In Benin Kingdom
LAGOS DECEMBER 15TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Oba of Benin, Ewaure II, has banned funeral rites across Benin Kingdom from Saturday, December 18, ahead of the annual celebration of Omo N’Oba (Igue) festival.
Infopowerng reports that the announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement signed by the Mr Frank Irabor, Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council (BTC).
The festival is used to thank the God’s of the land for the fruitful harvest in the ongoing year and also to pray for a prosperous year ahead.
According to the statement, activities for the festival would commence on December 18 and climaxed with the Oba worship at the Holy Arousa, a traditional church where the monarch worship.
The statement outlines various activities each day until the final day of the Oba”s worship at the traditional church on January 2, 2022.
According to statement, “May God and our Ancestors grant us all good health to be able to participate
“We use this medium to remind the public and appeal to them that celebrations of funeral riyes are not permitted during the period of the annual Royal festivals.”
