LAGOS JULY 26TH (NEWSRANGERS)-According to a report by The PUNCH, relatives, friends, colleagues, political associates and supporters gathered in Fadeyi, Lagos, on Tuesday to bid farewell to the slain union leader during his burial ceremony.
Sources close to the late Ajiboye alleged that preliminary investigations into the assassination suggested it was a carefully planned operation involving individuals who had gained the union official’s trust. They claimed that a bricklayer identified only as Oke, who had previously carried out construction work for the 43-year-old, allegedly monitored his movements and provided real-time updates to the gunmen who later ambushed and killed him along the Ikorodu Road axis.
One of the sources, described as a close associate of the deceased, alleged that Oke had built a close relationship with Ajiboye through his work before allegedly betraying that trust. According to the source, the suspect kept track of the union leader’s movements and secretly relayed his location to those behind the attack.
The source further claimed that on the day Ajiboye was killed, he had visited some elderly individuals and left his vehicle parked outside the premises. It was alleged that Oke took photographs of both the front and rear of the vehicle before forwarding the images to people who were reportedly positioned along the expressway, enabling them to identify and monitor Ajiboye’s vehicle as it left the area.
According to the source, Oke also allegedly sent a voice message informing the suspected attackers that Ajiboye was alone with only his driver and would soon depart. Unaware of what was happening, the late union official reportedly gave the bricklayer ₦5,000 before leaving, not knowing that his movements were allegedly being monitored and communicated to those waiting to carry out the attack.
The source further alleged that detectives arrested Oke and his wife the following night after the incident. According to him, investigators also identified another suspect known simply as Ogere as one of those allegedly involved in the operation, but he had reportedly gone into hiding before he could be apprehended.
Saturday PUNCH also reported that another suspect, identified as Suko and alleged to have provided financial support for parts of the operation, had reportedly fled Nigeria before security agencies could arrest him.
The newspaper further stated that it obtained a voice note from one of its sources, which allegedly captured a conversation between unidentified individuals discussing Ajiboye’s movements shortly before the attack. According to the report, the recording appeared to indicate that the slain union leader was under close surveillance until moments before he was ambushed and killed along the Ikorodu Road corridor.
