Horror As Circus Performer Falls From ‘Wheel Of Death’ In Front Of Live Audience
LAGOS APRIL 29TH (NEWSRANGERS)-A circus performer took a terrifying tumble from the ‘Wheel of Death’ in front of shocked families at Blackpool Tower Circus.
Spectators, including children, were left aghast when one of the daredevils performing on the spinning apparatus lost his footing and plunged to the ground during the 5pm show on Saturday, one audience member told the Mirror.
Emergency services quickly treated the fallen artist, who was subsequently whisked away to hospital. The circus tent was then promptly cleared out, stunned attendees claimed after the incident.
The performer, believed to be called Juan, is reportedly “recovering well” and being treated for a minor injury to his wrist.
One concerned individual posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Serious accident at the Blackpool Tower Circus this afternoon. A circus performer fell several feet from the wheel of death stunt onto the circus floor. Paramedics rushed him to hospital and the circus was evacuated. Praying all is well.”
A mother who was present with her children sent out wishes for the acrobat’s “speedy recovery” and commended the staff for their “amazing” handling of the situation.
Another distressed witness shared online: “In Blackpool Tower with the kids watching the circus when the bloke who was at the top of the wheel of death fell to the ground. Immediately all the audience were escorted out. I hope he is ok,” reported the Mirror.
Another onlooker who claimed to have witnessed the incident posted on social media that the artist “lost [their] balance and fell”, before being seen “rolling around shouting in pain grabbing his shoulder”. They also mentioned that everyone at the show was ushered out “safely and calmly”.

A Merlin Entertainments spokesman said: “We can confirm that a member of the Blackpool Tower Circus team had a minor fall whilst performing a rehearsed manoeuvre.
“Our medical team responded quickly with our well-established emergency procedures and supported the performer until the Emergency Services arrived.”
The Wheel of Death is a perilous act that’s a hit with circus-goers nationwide and globally. It features daredevils balancing atop spinning wheels attached to a rotating arm.
Back in 1994, tragedy struck at Blackpool Tower Circus when an artist died after a fall from the wheel. Neville Campbell, who was just 20-years-old, lost his life after landing headfirst during a performance.

While in 2022, another acrobat took a tumble doing the same stunt, but luckily escaped with only minor scrapes, as reported by the Daily Star.
A spokesperson for Blackpool Shows and Attractions said at the time: “The Wheel Of Death is a very common circus act currently being performed at many UK touring circuses and indeed all over the world.
“It is a calculated risk and thankfully accidents are very rare. That said these fearless performers spend many years training to do these acts and live for the adrenalin and entertainment of the public.”
