LAGOS SEPTEMBER 19TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Four persons Monday lost their lives following an explosion that rocked the Petroleum Wharf, Apapa, Lagos.
A source told SHIPPING DAY that the explosion occurred at the jetty when a vessel, Histria Ivory, was discharging fuel, Premium Motor Spirit.

It was gathered that some hoodlums had gathered at the jetty to scoop fuel spilling from the ship.
Following the fire incident, fire fighters from the Lagos State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigerian Navy were called to help in putting off the fire.
This was as the in-house fire unit in the jetty was not able to put the fire.
The NNPC in a statement issued by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ndu Ughamadu said the fire incident was caused by hoodlums as they interrupted the discharge operation.
But he assured that the incident will not affect supply of petroleum products.
He said the NNPC has deployed a team of engineers in the jetty to carry out the repair of the affected parts.
