LAGOS NOVEMBER 19TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is currently enmeshed in a scandal in which its officials has been accused of sharing 53 houses seized by the defunct Maina-led Pension Reform Taskforce Team.
According to a petition to the Senate and DSS, by David Adodo, chairman of concerned federal pensioners, the total recovered assets was worth N1.63 trillion from alleged Pension thieves, and that many more of such authenticated revelations are coming.
Spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwajereh, when contacted said, according to Adodo, some EFCC staff who were members of the tasskforce were used in the recovery of the assets.
The petition sighted by Nation newspaper read: “The defunct Maina Led Pension Reform Task Team recovered assets worth N1..63 Trillion from alleged Pension looters working with the EFCC, ICPC, DSS, POLICE and PARAMILITARY AGENCIES staff, who executed the recoveries and thereafter EFCC took custody of the recovered assets.
“EFCC as a member of the Maina Led Pension Task Team has the statutory powers to bank and take custody of the recovered assets. But today, will EFCC give account of these assets? (222 houses/ hotels, investment portfolios, cash and jeweleries)
“I don’t want to believe that Magu and Lamorde have embezzled these assets just like how former EFCC Chairperson Farida Waziri accused Nuhu Ribadu of stealing all recoveries under his tenure as EFCC Chairman and Ribadu has never responded to date.
“Hence, the Defunct Pension Reform Task wishes to request President Muhammadu Buhari to inaugurate a Commission of Inquiry with very honest law and law enforcement officers from the DSS and the Ministry of Justice, to investigate the whereabouts of these assets from the EFCC.
“You may recall that in February 2016, several petitions were received by the EFCC accusing some of its officers (Namely: Habibu A. Aliyu, Ruqaya Ibrahim, Isa Dogonyaro, Mustafa Gadanya and a host of others of coercing some pension suspects standing trial into giving them huge sums of money to avert getting convicted.
The newspaper quoted some staffers of the EFCC as disclosing that the Management of EFCC refused to take action, which means that the whole setup is not clean.
“I believe that if EFCC is thoroughly investigated, the truth will definitely come out and the integrity of this government will no longer be in doubt”.
