LAGOS NOVEMBER 1ST (NEWSRANGERS)-A pot dealer was accidentally killed by his own bodyguard, who opened fire during a botched drug deal in Washington Heights, police said.
The friendly fire happened as victim Jose Nunez, 43, and a buddy, Alex Siraj, 31, were meeting two prospective customers at a parking garage on Wadsworth Ave. near W. 178th St. around 10:40 p.m. on Sunday.
The bodyguard was sitting in a car parked nearby and was overseeing the transaction, police said.
When Nunez and Siraj handed over the pot, the two customers pulled out guns and began pistol-whipping the men before taking their cell phones.
When the man in the car saw the drug deal had gone sideways, he jumped out and started blasting, accidentally striking Nunez in the head.
Nunez later died at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Siraj also went to the same hospital with minor injuries.
The gunman is currently being sought by police, who released a photo of the suspect. He is believed to be in his 20s or 30s, stands around 5-foot-10 and weighs approximately 160 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
