AFCON:European Giants Send Scout to Super Eagles Camp To Evaluate Alhassan Yusuf
LAGOS JANUARY 29TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Reports from the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire highlight the presence of foreign scouts in Abidjan, keen on assessing the performance of Super Eagles’ player, Alhassan Yusuf.
According to daily post, Both West Ham United from the English Premier League and RB Leipzig from the Bundesliga have dispatched scouts to evaluate the 23-year-old midfielder.
Yusuf, absent from the previous two games due to a thigh injury sustained in the opening match against Equatorial Guinea, is expected to make a comeback in Nigeria’s Round of 16 clash against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
The midfielder resumed full team training on Wednesday, gearing up for Nigeria’s upcoming match in the AFCON.
His inclusion in Nigeria’s AFCON 2023 squad came as a result of Wilfred Ndidi’s injury. As Yusuf readies himself for a potential return to action, foreign scouts are closely monitoring his performance, signaling potential interest from prominent European clubs.
In a noteworthy development, former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has expressed his belief that Stanley Nwabali surpasses Francis Uzoho in goalkeeping capabilities.
Despite pre-tournament skepticism from Nigerian football enthusiasts about Uzoho’s suitability, Coach Jose Peseiro selected him for the AFCON.
Contrary to expectations, Peseiro has consistently favored Nwabali over Uzoho in the tournament. The 27-year-old goalkeeper, currently contracted to South African club Chippa United, has impressively conceded only one goal in three games, maintaining two clean sheets.
Gernot Rohr, now the technical adviser of the Benin Republic national team, articulated his preference for Nwabali, citing the goalkeeper’s calm demeanor and effective control of his area.
The ongoing AFCON is not only showcasing the talents of players like Alhassan Yusuf but also challenging established perceptions, as evidenced by Nwabali’s noteworthy performances in the goalkeeping role for the Super Eagles.
