Acting IGP Muhammaded Adamu

LAGOS JANUARY 22ND (NEWRANGERS)-Barely a week into his appointment as the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has swung into action aimed at sanitizing the Police Force by ordering the immediate disbandment of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).
Other units of the police that the IGP also disbanded are the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) and the Special Tactical Squad (SPT).
Adamu made this known on Monday, January 21, during his introductory conference with Commissioners of Police and other senior officers in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the new IGP, the FSARS will now be domiciled under the direct supervision of the Commissioners of Police in all the 36 states and the FCT.
He added that the IGP Special Investigation Panel and IGP Special Tactical Squad which were established by the former IGP Ibrahim Idris, will also be disbanded.
Before now, many Nigerians have continuosly called for the disbandment or reorganisation of the FSARS going by various human rights abuses by its operatives.
Late last year, there was a concerted efforts for the unit to the scrapped with the #EndSARS campaign which was embraced by many Nigerians.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had, in August 2018, ordered a full overhaul of the hierachy of SARS following the outcry but the then IGP Idris turned a blind eye to the activities but it now seems the new IG is bent of rejiging the battered image of the police with sweeping changes.
