Brazil Vs Argentina Match Suspended Four Minutes Into Game
LAGOS SEPTEMBER 6TH (NEWSRANGERS)-A World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina was suspended on Sunday.
Brazilian health officials took to the field to accuse a number of Argentine players of breaking COVID-19 quarantine rules.
Just five minutes after kickoff, officials walked onto the pitch and led off the trio of Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Emiliano Martinez, as well as Emiliano Buendia who was in the stands.
The scene has been described by some as a farce.
Under Brazilian rules, visitors who have been in the UK in the past 14 days are forbidden from entering the country, unless they are Brazilian citizens or have permanent residency.
Brazil’s health regulator Anvisa said it had received reports that the four Argentine players had provided “false information” on their pre-flight health declarations.
The regulator said they had issued ample warnings that they must isolate, but when the instructions were ignored, they ask the federal police to enforce the isolation ruling.
Brazil currently leads the South American qualifying group for Qatar 2022, six points ahead of second-placed Argentina. The top four qualify automatically for Qatar.
