Northern Youths Kick Against Formation Of ‘Operation Amotekun’ In Western Part Of Nigeria
LAGOS JANUARY 10TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Hours after its inauguration, the Northern Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN), on Thursday, January 8, has kicked against the formation of ‘Operation Amotekun’ in the southwest zone of the country.
Daily Trust reports that the national president of NYCN, Isah Abubakar, in a statement issued in Kaduna, urged President Muhammadu Buhari, not to allow what he described as “unconstitutionality” to prevail.
“Amotekun group in southwest is OPC military wing in disguise and in the same league with the proscribe IPOB. The president must not allow this unconstitutionality to prevail,” he said.
Isah said southwest governors must desist from backing such groups as the Amotekun, adding that group is a threat to peace and national security and an attempt to jeorpadize Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Abubakar said Nigerian police, DSS and Army shouldn’t take this lightly with the governors of southwest, adding that the National Security Adviser should promptly take steps that would avert the looming threat to Nigeria’s national security by southwest governors, OPC and others.
It was reported that while speaking with journalists ahead of the inauguration of the outfit on Wednesday, January 8, Adams said Operation Amotekun would put an end to criminality in the region.
Describing the initiative as a welcome development, Adams said the idea was long overdue and that the Yoruba people are happy with Operation Amotekun.
