LAGOS AUGUST 26TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Tragedy struck the Nigerian media community on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, with the sudden death of Mr. Dotun Oladipo, Publisher of The Eagle Online, a digital newspaper.
Dotun, who served as President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCO), was aged 56 and the echoes of lamentation reverberated loudly.

The pain was made worse by the suddenness of his death.
Dotun was said to be at his office when he suddenly took ill. But he, nevertheless, drove himself to the hospital where his health condition took a dramatic turn for the worse.
He reportedly suffered a suspected heart attack while receiving emergency attention.
His death came as a major shock to his friends, colleagues and associates, some of who spoke or chatted with him shortly before his demise.
And it has been lamentations galore as colleagues took to the social media to mourn the man many fondly called Dotman.
A fitness enthusiast, it was gathered that Dotun had visited the gym with his wife earlier on Tuesday.
He also remained active on social media throughout the day, with his last known post reportedly published at about 2:50pm, just a few hours before the news of his death started spreading among friends and professional colleagues.
Details about the circumstances surrounding his death were still being awaited as of the time of filing this report, while an official statement from his family was yet to be released.
Oladipo was the Managing Editor and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, the company behind The Eagle Online, which he founded at a time when Nigeria’s digital news industry was still in its formative years.
He was regarded as one of the early Nigerian journalists to embrace digital-first journalism, helping to pioneer the transition from traditional media to online news publishing.
Records from the Nigerian Media Leaders Summit indicate that Oladipo launched The Eagle Online in January 2011, making him part of the first generation of Nigerian media professionals who recognised the growing possibilities of internet-based journalism before online news became a dominant source of information.
Under his leadership, The Eagle Online grew into a broad-based digital news platform reporting developments across politics, business, sports, crime, health, entertainment, religion, lifestyle and other major national issues.
His death marks a significant loss to Nigeria’s evolving digital media landscape and has continued to generate tributes from members of the journalism profession and beyond.
