How Fela’s Son Seun Kuti Narrowly Escapes Death In US Hotel
LAGOS MAY 7TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Nigerian Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has recounted how he narrowly escaped death after a stray bullet pierced the window of his hotel room in the United States.
Seun, the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, shared the alarming incident in a video he posted on his Instagram page on Sunday evening.
He expressed shock and disbelief over what had happened, noting that he expected a more civilized atmosphere in the U.S.
“I read somewhere that these are the civilized people,” he wrote.
In the short video, he said, “Tell me you are in America without telling me you are in America. I am in my hotel room just chilling and boom, this happened.”
The video, which has since gone viral, shows the shattered hotel window with a visible bullet hole, sparking concern among his fans and followers.
Although Kuti did not disclose the specific city where the shooting occurred, he confirmed that he was unharmed.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over gun violence in the United States, which continues to grapple with a surge in shootings nationwide.
According to data from the Gun Violence Archive, the U.S. has recorded over 180 mass shootings in 2025 alone, following a similar trajectory to previous years.
Just last week, a shooting at a hotel in Atlanta left two people injured, while major cities including Chicago, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles have reported spikes in gun-related incidents.
Fans flooded Seun’s Instagram comments section with messages of relief and concern, with many urging him to prioritise his safety.
Others used the opportunity to highlight ongoing debates about gun control in the US.
It remains unclear whether the police were notified or if an investigation is underway.
Also, Seun has not announced any changes to his scheduled performances or appearances in the country
