LAGOS FEBRUARY 8TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Panic has gripped Bushe community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State after gunmen stormed a mosque during the early morning Subhi prayer, abducting no fewer than 11 worshippers, including the Imam.

The brazen attack, which took place on Thursday, has left residents in shock, with many expressing fears over the growing insecurity in the region.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, who have long tormented the community, struck just as prayers began, forcefully whisking away their victims before security forces could intervene.

The Nation reports that the swift response of Nigerian Army troops reportedly prevented further carnage, but the gunmen had already fled with their captives.

Confirming the incident, the Sokoto State Police Command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Rufai, assured that security agencies were working tirelessly to secure the safe return of the abducted worshippers.

Meanwhile, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing Sabon Birni B Constituency also verified the attack and commended security operatives for their intervention.

The assault underscores the rising wave of violent attacks in Sokoto and other northern states, where armed groups have continued to target rural communities, displacing families and instilling fear among residents.
