Fraud: Police Arraign Couple Over Alleged N20m Canadian Visa Racket
LAGOS JULY 15TH *NEWRANGERS)_The Nigeria Police, Plateau State Command has arraigned one Dr Aniyi Williams and his wife Mrs Yinka Aniyi Williams for using a fake company name to commit crime of issuing visa and travel ticket to Canada and other European countries .
According to the police, Dr Aniyi Williams registered an online organization called ,” Wilda Global Sports Limited ” to dupe his prey, claiming that he operates a registered film company to mobilized clients for traveled agencies.
The defendants Mr /Mrs Aniyi Williams were arraigned at the Jos Metropolitan Development Board,(JMDB) Magistrate Court for alleged N20 million fraud and for duping over four families from whom they collected huge amount of money only to find out that the arranged visa and travel agency were fake.
The man and his wife including the company were arraigned as 1st ,2nd and 3rd defendants on a two-count charge of fraud, conspiracy and cheating .
The complainants counsel, Barr. Yusuf Ali , told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 2 , 2022, in Plateau state and claimed that he had a branch office in Jegede Street, Akinogun, Lagos State.
He added that Dr Aniyi Williams and Mrs Yinka Aniyi Williams fraudulently got the N20 million from five persons under the pretence of using it to organize for job opportunity for his clients in Canada but failed to provide the visa or repay the money as agreed by the party.
The first complainant was Evangeleen Okoye of Zarmanfa community in Jos South Loca Government. Other complainants were Emeka Kenneth Udigi, Ibrahim Musa Gyang and Barnabas George. They claimed that the husband and wife promised the family of six job opportunities in Canada which was scheduled to take effect in February, 2023. Five months after, they were yet to fulfill their promises and failed to give any explanation.
The offence, according to the police contravened Sections 306,307,and 56 of the Criminal Law of Plateau State, 2017 and punishable under section 59 of the Penal Code Law.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate court judge granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the same sum.
He adjourned the case till July 27, 2023 for mention.
